What is Ego State Therapy?
Ego State Therapy is a powerful and effective method of achieving the agreed goals of therapy either using hypnosis or the conscious state. Ego State theory states that everyone is made up of many different parts. Sometimes these parts of us are in conflict with each other or engaging is destructive behaviour or angry and upset by past traumas or events. It is possible to discover and work with an individual part to access and release deep seated issues. This will allow you to move forward powerfully in your life. This therapy provides a powerful process for personal change to help achieve inner peace, self awareness and self esteem.
Ego State theory states that we are made up of many different Ego States or parts. These parts arise in response to childhood events and the parts are designed to cope with particular stimulus. The coping mechanism may be helpful or harmful to you and may result in inappropriate behaviour or response to particular circumstances. Most people are aware that they have many parts and sometimes we say "Part of me wants to give up smoking but part of me still enjoys smoking." This is an example of two parts in conflict.
A person may seek therapy to change a behaviour because they are aware that they have a part that sabotages their good efforts. Using hypnosis to access and communicate with that part it is possible to negotiate or satisfy that part so that it no longer needs to behave in an inappropriate way to get it’s needs met. In hypnosis it is possible to discover and work with an individual part to access and release deep seated issues. This will allow you to move forward powerfully in your life.

"The personality is composed of separate mood states. These mood states, which everyone has, are called Ego States. Medical and psychological problems can result from Ego States harboring pain, trauma, anger or frustration and expressing it inappropriately. Indecision is a result of two Ego State wanting different things. "(Emmerson, 2001)
